Prime Ministers Justin Trudeau and Stephen Harper both captured a majority of seats in Parliament with only about 39% of the popular vote. Most other advanced democracies have adopted proportional voting systems that more accurately translate ballots into representation.
The Liberals promised that 2015 would be the last federal election using our antiquated first-past-the-post voting system. Most Canadians voted for parties that promised to change that electoral system.
