Employment Insurance

The federal budget extended Employment Insurance (EI) benefits to some regions hurt by lower oil prices, but left out Regina and South Saskatchewan. Erin Weir has repeatedly questioned this decision in Parliament and in the media. The Liberal government eventually added South Saskatchewan, but continues to exclude Regina – leaving our city as the only part of Saskatchewan or Alberta not receiving extended EI.

The latest statistics show more people receiving EI everywhere else in the province as extended benefits took effect, but fewer recipients in Regina. Laid-off workers running out of benefits, and their families, urgently need help. That’s why Erin and the NDP are fighting to include Regina in the EI extension.

Do you agree with Erin Weir and the NDP that the Liberal government should extend EI benefits for Regina's unemployed workers?
