NDP Seminar to Protect Disability Tax Credit Applicants
January 19, 2017
Regina-Lewvan MP Erin Weir is hosting a seminar tomorrow on the Disability Tax Credit to protect constituents from predatory consultants. Telehealth Saskatchewan will broadcast the seminar to guide people through the application process.
“Conservative and Liberal governments have deliberately downplayed the Disability Tax Credit,” said Weir. “Many who are eligible do not claim this credit. Predatory consultants are exploiting the lack of public awareness by charging disabled Canadians 20% or more of benefits received to process their applications.”
Last month, doctors practicing at Regina Centre Crossing sent a letter to MPs Erin Weir, Ralph Goodale and Andrew Scheer calling attention to this problem in our city.
“It’s unfair that consultants are taking advantage of our most vulnerable citizens with exorbitant fees,” added Weir. “Public education is the best solution to this problem. Our federal NDP team in Saskatchewan is proud to host this seminar to let constituents know about the Disability Tax Credit and how to apply for it.”
MP Peter Julian, an expert on the Disability Tax Credit, will be leading the seminar from La Loche in conjunction with Saskatchewan’s New Democratic MPs. People in Regina can participate in the seminar through Telehealth Saskatchewan from the General Hospital, Room 7&8, Level 0, starting at 1pm this Friday, January 20th. Media are welcome to attend.
