Bolster Wholesale Trade with Steel
May 22nd, 2018
Statistics Canada reported today that Saskatchewan was the only province other than Newfoundland and Labrador in which wholesale trade fell over the past year.
To bolster Saskatchewan’s wholesale trade and support local jobs, MP Erin Weir is calling on the federal government to tie its indemnity for Trans Mountain investors to their continued use of Regina steel to complete the project.
MP Weir asked the following in today’s Question Period:
Last week, the government announced it will indemnify investors in the Trans Mountain Expansion.
Kinder Morgan had contracted to build most of the project with steel pipe manufactured in Regina, which is cleaner and safer than offshore steel.
To support Canadian jobs, will the government make its indemnity conditional on Trans Mountain investors upholding the existing commitment to use Canadian-made steel?
